Chongqing builds China's first low-carbon highway

Chongqing builds China's first low-carbon highway The reporter learned from Chongqing Expressway Group and Rongrong Expressway Co., Ltd. that the first low-carbon expressway in China will be built in the high-speed Chongqing section of Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway under construction.

According to the plan, Chengyu Double Line has adopted six major categories of low-carbon initiatives: including the construction of low-carbon roads, low-carbon tunnels, low-carbon service areas, ETC toll and travel information systems, forest high-speed carbon sink systems, and solar lighting.

In the construction of low-carbon roads, rubber asphalt pavement is used, and it is estimated that nearly 10,000 scrap tires can be consumed. This measure saves 40% energy compared with traditional technologies, 50% of greenhouse gas emissions, and 90% of special harmful gas asphalt smoke. In the tunnel, LED lights are used. After the operation, it can save 2.6226 million kWh of electricity and save about 2.17 million yuan in electricity. It is estimated that after the completion of the high-speed Chongqing section of Chengdu-Chongqing Double Line until 2033, it is expected that the operating vehicles will save a total of 506,200 tons of oil and 743,900 tons of standard coal.
