Thailand is a major manufacturing base for Japanese electronics and car manufacturers, and floods have caused these companies to move to other locations to assemble parts and finished products.
In the two reports released by Standard & Poor's on Wednesday, the agency’s experts believed that the impact of flooding would not be too long and therefore would not damage the credibility of companies such as Toyota and Sony.
A Reuters report pointed out that the floods in Thailand caused the shutdown of Toyota, Nissan, Honda and other companies for several weeks. The lack of parts allowed Toyota to reduce its production in Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Another report from the Associated Press said that the lack of parts allowed Honda to close a production site in Malaysia.
The floods also led Sony to delay the release of a major new product.
