When he took a closer look, he was taken aback. It turned out that this was a state-level animal protection finless porpoise.
Mr. Wan, while responding to the relevant authorities, dragged the finless porpoise ashore. After measurement, the finless porpoise was about 70 centimeters long and weighed more than 10 kilos. Due to a long period of death, the corpse began to rot and attracted a large number of flies.
I heard that the finless porpoise was found on the river, and many citizens have surrounded it. "The finless porpoise is a national second-class animal that is dead and has research value and must be protected immediately." Some people in the crowd are suggesting this. Yesterday at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, the relevant staff of the Nanjing University of Life Sciences rushed to the dock to bring the finless porpoise back to the laboratory for research. The cause of death was still being analyzed as of this writing.

According to Tang Zhebin, Fisheries Department of Nanjing City, a few years ago, in the Yangtze River waters of Nanjing, more than a dozen heads of finless porpoises could often be seen playing on the river. Now this warm and spectacular scene is hard to see again, sometimes only occasionally. The finless porpoise, which is even 45 or even single, is not a good thing. The finless porpoise lives back and forth on the Yangtze River. If there is little human interference and the environment is good, it can stay longer here.
“The main reason for the death of the finless porpoise is water pollution.†Zhang, who has been fishing on the Yangtze River, said that he grew up on the river and he has a deep understanding of the changes in the water quality of the Yangtze River. The reason is because those fishing boats dump diesel directly into the river and the river is already very dirty.

The water quality polluted by the two conditions may cause the finless porpoise to lose its homeland. Frequent deaths are not surprising. Tang Zhebin said that there is another important reason that electronic fishing devices are harmful to finless porpoises.
Lack of food allows finless porpoise to face food chain scission
"In addition to water pollution and electronic fishing on the finless porpoise damage, the finless porpoise is still facing the threat of lack of food!" Tang Zhebin said with emotion.
According to him, the original method of fishing on the Yangtze River was to use the traditional method of spreading fish. Because the water quality was not polluted, the fish caught at that time could be said to be 10 times that of today. Currently, the tonnage of fishing vessels is generally 15 tons, and the horsepower is 60 horses. This is much larger than before and the fishing technology is greatly improved. Coupled with the water quality problems, the number of fish and shrimps is reduced, which poses a threat to the finless porpoise's bait. .
Tang Zhebin said that apart from the large changes in water quality, the current drop in rivers is also undergoing tremendous changes every year. For example, in the event of a heavy rain, the water level will increase by one meter. If the upstream water does not come, the water level will drop by one meter. This drop directly leads to the spawning of fish and shrimp.
The more serious problem is that the artificial transformation of nature has brought the environment into a vicious circle. For example, many riverbank wetlands in Nanjing have been developed. In the 1950s, there were more than 600 lakes across the Yangtze River. Now there are only 5 lakes. Others have been cofferdams or converted into dams.
Professor Wang of the Nanjing University’s School of Life Sciences said that it is a good way to protect the finless porpoise by vigorously managing water pollution in the Yangtze River, effectively controlling fishing, and severely cracking down on the use of controllable electronic fishing devices. However, if there is a problem in the food chain, and no effective measures can be taken to remedy this, perhaps in the near future, the finless porpoise will disappear.
