How does Windows Time Service affect users and applications?

Many Windows features and services rely on time synchronization. For example, the default time synchronization threshold for the Kerberos V5 authentication protocol on a Windows Server 2003 domain is five minutes. Computers that are not synchronized for more than five minutes on this domain will not be able to use the Kerberos protocol for authentication. The time value can also be configured as a larger or smaller threshold. The inability to authenticate using the Kerberos protocol prevents logins and access to websites, file shares, printers, and other resources or services in the domain.

Windows Time Service Configuration Settings

The setting is AnnounceFlags, which controls whether this computer is marked as a reliable time server.
