On May 12, the China Automobile Association released production and sales data for April. In April this year, production and sales decreased by 8.9% and 11% respectively compared with the previous month. The monthly cumulative growth continued to fall, down 4.9 and 6.3 percentage points from the same period of the previous year.
In this regard, the China Automobile Association believes that in accordance with domestic market sales practices, March is a peak, April and May should be a monthly downward trend, mainly affected by market consumption behavior. Another feature is that passenger cars can maintain growth by SUV and MPV, which also indicates that the current market is further subdivided. Overall, the consumption of passenger cars is actually supported, so the total size can be guaranteed without significant fluctuations.
It is worth mentioning that the market share of China's own brands is gradually rising when the total growth rate slows down. The data shows that in April, Chinese brand passenger cars sold a total of 686,400 units, a year-on-year increase of 14.3%, and the market share increased by 3.8% over the same period of the previous year. Among them, the Chinese brand SUV sold a total of 238,800 units, an increase of 91.2% year-on-year, and the market share increased by 11.5% over the same period of the previous year. Chinese brand MPV sold a total of 144,100 units, a year-on-year increase of 24.3%, and the market share increased by 1.5% over the same period of the previous year.
