Brazil plans to triple exports of ethanol fuel

Brazil’s Agriculture Minister Roberto Rodriguez said on the 14th that Brazil plans to triple its ethanol fuel exports within the next seven years and invest approximately US$13.4 billion in this.

According to Brazilian media reports, Rodriguez, who is visiting Japan, revealed that by 2013, the annual ethanol production in Brazil will increase from the current 17.5 billion liters to 35 billion liters, of which about 10 billion liters will be exported. At present, the annual export volume of ethanol fuel in Brazil is 3 billion liters, and the main export market is the United States.

In addition, he said that in the next seven years, Brazil's sugarcane production will increase from the current 427 million tons to 627 million tons, while the Brazilian government plans to build 89 new ethanol fuel production plants. At present, there are 336 ethanol production plants in Brazil.

Brazil is the world's largest ethanol exporter. It is reported that Mitsui Bank of Japan recently signed an agreement with Petrobras and decided to invest 8 billion U.S. dollars in the construction of 40 ethanol production plants in Brazil.
