China's largest coal-to-methanol plant put into operation

On December 28, 2007, China's first coal-to-methanol plant with an annual output of 500,000 tons was built and put into operation at Shandong Yankuang Guohong Chemical Co., Ltd., which refreshed the record of large-scale coal-to-methanol plants currently put into operation in China.

The total investment of the device is 2.217 billion yuan, which was started at the end of October 2005. The project introduces U.S. technology, uses high-sulfur coal as raw materials, adopts processes such as coal gas slurry pressure gasification, coal-based multi-generation, and low-temperature methanol washing. The treatment capacity reaches 6 million cubic meters of synthesis gas, and the designed annual production capacity is 500,000 tons of methanol. And sulfur, argon, liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen and other chemical raw materials, is currently the country's largest coal-to-methanol project has been put into production, the largest and most economical project. Li Yongwu, president of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, who specially attended the launching ceremony, believes that the completion and production of this project signifies that China’s comprehensive development and utilization of high-sulfur coal and the development of coal-based alcohol ether fuels have reached world advanced levels and have entered scale. Production stage.

According to reports, the biggest feature of the project is the use of high-sulfur coal as a raw material, which has solved the problems that previously high-sulfur coal was difficult to handle. At the same time, using advanced technology, the purity of the produced methanol is as high as 99.99%. It can be used as a fine chemical raw material and has extremely high economic and environmental benefits. The unit consumes 1 million tons of high-sulfur coal each year, which not only solves the problem of high-sulfur coal itself, but also solves the problem that high-sulfur coal in surrounding coal mines is difficult to handle. Each year, more than 40,000 tons of sulfur dioxide dust can be reduced, and at the same time More than 20,000 tons of sulfur can be extracted and transformed, and this alone can generate more than 70 million yuan for enterprises each year.

It is understood that the total production capacity of coal-to-methanol projects currently under construction and planned throughout the country exceeds an annual output of 5 million tons, which are all large-scale projects of 500,000 tons or more. Large-scale production will bring considerable economic benefits to the coal chemical industry.
