Application Analysis of Penetration Detection in Pressure Vessels

Penetration testing applies a special permeate to the surface of the workpiece to be inspected. Due to the osmotic action of the liquid, the permeate can penetrate into the surface of the workpiece without any cracks, notches, pits, etc., and the display agent can be reused. The presence of defects is indicated by displaying the permeate that penetrates the defect on the surface of the workpiece.

(1) Weld inspection during the manufacture of pressure vessels. Used to detect surface opening defects in welds and heat affected zones such as hot cracks, cold cracks and delayed cracks.

(2) In-service testing of pressure vessels. It is used to detect the weld opening of the pressure vessel in use, the heat affected zone and the surface opening defects of the substrate, such as fatigue crack, stress corrosion, intergranular corrosion and the like.

The advantages of penetration testing: simple equipment, easy operation, low cost, and intuitive inspection results; for the inspection of large workpieces and irregular shape workpieces and on-site inspection and inspection of in-use equipment, it can show its special applicability and advantages.

Disadvantages of penetration testing: Nothing can be done for defects buried below the surface layer and only defects exposed to the surface can be detected.
