In the past two days, the Chinese car and passenger car tires suffered bad news from the US “double oppositionâ€, which made domestic tire companies boast. At the same time, there is another good news from the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
The committee’s vote on February 19, 2016 showed that it had concluded an anti-dumping and countervailing investigation on engineering tires (OTR) imported from China. This means that Chinese products have not been included in the "double opposition" object this time.
However, ITC said it will continue to conduct "double-reverse" investigations on engineering tires from India and Sri Lanka.
At the preliminary hearing on February 19, ITC determined that there were reasonable indications that the US tire industry was substantially harmed by engineering tires imported from India and Sri Lanka. In other words, these investigated tires are sold below the fair price in the United States, violating the principle of fairness.
All six members of the ITC voted unanimously that the damage caused by engineering tires imported from China to the United States was negligible compared to the damage caused by imported tires in India and Sri Lanka.
Therefore, the US Department of Commerce will continue to investigate these tire products imported from India and Sri Lanka. The preliminary countervailing duty decision will be confirmed on April 4, 2016, or together with the preliminary anti-dumping tax decision, on June 16, 2016.
