On May 1, local time, the Long Beach Convention Center in Southern California held the 2017 Advanced Clean Transportation Expo. The exhibition is the largest transportation exhibition in North America. Many brands have appeared in their respective new energy models, giving practitioners the opportunity to “one-stop” experience and purchase many clean and transport vehicles that are both economical and environmentally friendly.

The weight of the electric-only sanitation trucks participating in the exhibition was 10 tons, and about 178 kilowatt hours of iron batteries independently developed by BYD were used. It took only 2.8 hours for a single full charge and the battery life was over 120 kilometers. Each truck will save up to 13,000 US dollars in fuel and maintenance fees each year, and will help reduce 716 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to planting 680 acres of woods, covering a total area of approximately 385 standard football fields. In addition, the truck meets the requirements of FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) and CMVSS (Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) and will be produced in volume at the BYD Lancaster factory.

The 18-meter hinged pure electric bus is the world’s first 18-metre pure electric hinged bus and is the first 18-meter-long hinged bus that BYD delivered in North America. The AVTA (Antelope Valley Transit Authority) of the Antelope Valley, California, purchased 85 BYD pure electric buses in February 2016, and announced that it will fully electrify the fleet in 2018—building the nation’s first 100% electric bus fleet. . 85 orders included 13 18-meter-long hinged buses, and the first one has been successfully delivered.

Up to now, BYD's pure electric buses, trucks and taxi footprints have spread across the United States and east and west coasts, including more than 30 states including Tennessee, Maryland, Texas, Missouri, and California. Its Lancaster plant currently employs approximately 570 local employees, and annually produces 350 buses/trucks. With the continuous development and expansion of its business, the annual production capacity will increase to 1,500 units and will continue to create thousands of jobs.
