The city authorities recently announced a climate change plan that would allow Copenhagen to achieve a carbon balance in 2025, cutting carbon emissions to an insignificant level. Part of these plans is that the city will redesign its street lights. The Photonics Green Lab at the Danish Outdoor Lighting Laboratory (DOLL) conducted an experiment to replace the road that stretched 5.7 miles (9.2 km) into the suburb of Bateslon into an LED smart streetlight system. According to Inhbabitat, this report emphasizes that experiments are virtual technology competitions that compete with each other, and field trial products are reserved for 25 companies. Each light has its own separate IP address so it can be monitored.
