Loose matter is divided into two or more particle size levels through sieve holes, called screening. In the beneficiation plant, coal plant or other selected industrial sectors, screening equipment usually has several purposes described below.
(1) Pre-screening and screening. The qualified product with the specified particle size before the crushing is called pre-screening. After the crushing, the material with excessive particle size in the product is sieved out and returned to the crusher and then broken, which is called inspection and screening. Pre-screening and inspection screening are often referred to as auxiliary screening.
(2) Prepare for screening. The screening operation for the next processing sorting process is referred to as preparing for screening. For example, before re-election or magnetic separation in a concentrator, the ore is usually sieved to the required size and then sorted.
(3) Independent screening. After the material is sieved, the final product is called independent screening. For example the required grade of iron-rich ore sieving into different size fractions were sent ironworks, pelletizing plant or sinter plant.
(4) Dewatering, desliming and de-screening. The more muddy or moisture contained in the material is removed by sieving, which is called deliming screening or dewatering screening. In heavy medium beneficiation, the medium is separated by sieving for recycling, which is called de-screening.
In addition to the most common uses mentioned above, screening equipment has other special uses. For example, when the distribution of useful constituents in minerals is significantly different in different fractions, the fractions rich in useful constituents can be separated from the remaining fractions by sieving, the former as a coarse concentrate and the latter as a tailings or Sending the sorting, this screening can be referred to as selection screening or screening.
