How to remove kaolin by flotation?

Kaolin has important applications in the papermaking, ceramics and other industries. Flotation can remove impurities such as quartz , iron and titanium in kaolin. The flotation methods are as follows:

(1) Separation from gangue minerals such as quartz. Using positive flotation method, using dodecylamine, triethanolamine and pyridine as the collector of kaolin, using lignin sulfonate to inhibit silicate minerals such as quartz, it can also inhibit iron minerals, and the pH value is controlled at 3.0-3.1. The pulp quality score is about 10%. The disadvantage of this method is that the foam is sticky and difficult to control, and a more effective dispersing agent should be sought.

(2) Removal of iron and titanium mineral impurities in kaolin. The reverse flotation method is used to inhibit kaolin with ammonium sulfate and to capture iron (Fe2O3) and titanium (TiO) impurities with a fatty acid collector. If the iron and titanium impurities have a fine particle size, a carrier reverse flotation method can be employed. The carrier may be calcite powder (CaCO3, -320 mesh), carrying fine-grained iron and titanium impurities floating up. The floating foam product is discarded and the product in the tank is kaolin concentrate. The vector can be reused 8 to 9 times. When appropriate, separate the foam from the carrier and reuse it. If it is not necessary, it will be discarded if it is not separated. The pH at the time of flotation is 9.0, and the collector may be a petroleum sulfonate other than a fatty acid.

(3) Remove pyrite impurities. Sometimes impurities in kaolin is present in the form of iron pyrite, in this case, with sodium hexametaphosphate as a dispersant phosphate, xanthate to pyrite float.
